I just put the parts on the bike roughly together yesterday without the spring. The pressure in the brake cylinder seems enough to bring the pedal back in position, but I am not sure, if it is enough to operate repeatedly reliable the brake light switch.…

My bike has a spring and it brokes two years ago. At that time, spare parts were abailable and i changed the spring.
Other frinds with an R1200c habe no springs mounted and the brake works fine. Seems there are different mechanisms to return the pedal?!

True... But as long as there is a working solution at the end I am open to some mysterious secrets.... that's one thing we like about the C

With these bikes, unfortunately all logic goes out the window. In the US, we say "it is, what it is"!

That your '02 C has no spring (and never had as you said), explaines, that my spring on the '99 C is missing.
I am also not aware of disassembled one.

Same brake pedal, same spring, different spacers & bushings, but the C has an M8-40 bolt vs. an M8-55 for the Montauk. I guess its longer to accommodate the spring retainer bushings shown on the fiche. I…

Genau deshalb habe auch ich auf die (haftende) Unmantelung vorab verzichtet.

Techflex habe ich auch verwendet. Vorher ummanteln kann eher schädlich sein, weil die einzelnen Adern sich in der Ummantelung nicht mehr gut bewegen können. Das wurde hier schon mal thematisiert.
